Who Is the Catechist Certification Program For?

The Catechist Certification Program is offered to parish catechetical leaders, parish catechists, and Catholic school teachers who serve within the Diocese of Providence. School teachers should consult with the Catholic Schools Office for precise requirements for professional development.

I am already enrolled in Catechist Certification. Does this virtual Convocation count for my Level One or Level Two Methodological Workshops Credit?

Yes! Normally the Methodological Workshops component is fulfilled by completing 3 hours at either the annual Faith Formation Convocation or a Catechist Morning event. Since we are not having the live Convocation this year, and are providing this virtual experience instead, you can receive certification credit for your participation in the Virtual Faith Formation Convocation. 

How do I get credit toward my certification for this event?

In order to receive 3 credit hours toward your Level One or Level Two Certification, we are going to ask that you view 6 presentations. 
Please complete the form below and indicate that you would like to receive certification credit for this event. Finally, please write a half page response for each of the 6 presentations that you viewed that includes a summary of the material and something that you learned or took away from the session. Submit your responses by email to Edward Trendowski. Please submit just one Word or PDF file that includes all of your responses. Submit this assignment by April 21 in order to receive credit for this event. 

I haven't started Catechist Certification yet. Can I still get credit for this event?

Yes! Simply complete the form on this page and indicate that you are a new participant. Then submit the required assignment noted above by April 21.  You've started! Going forward you will receive emails notifying you when the next online  courses will begin. 

Do I have to be a catechist or teacher to take the online courses or can anyone take them?

Level One and Level Two courses are open to the public! When you register, the form will ask you if you are seeking certification credit. Simply choose No. Ongoing lifelong formation is important for all Catholics. We would be glad to have you participate!
